Einladung zum Internationalen Filmfest in Kiew/Ukraine

Zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben fliege ich im Mai 2018 in die Ukraine. Eingeladen wurde ich vom Direktor des Internationalen Filmfests MOLODIST in Kiew.

Als Präsidentin der ökumenischen Jury werde ich acht Tage von morgens bis abends Filme gucken und dann mit meinen Kolleginnen und Kollegen die Besten prämieren.

Und mit dieser Mail aus Kiew wird mir alles Weitere abgenommen. Einfach super:

It’s a big pleasure to host you at our festival this year as a President of  Ecumenical jury.

The Ecumenical Jury has awarded its Prize to „Tiszta szívvel – Kills On Wheels“ by Attila Till From Hungary, 2016

Rupaszov lernt Zoli und Barba in einem Heim für Behinderte kennen. Da er im Rollstuhl nicht mehr als Feuerwehrmann arbeiten kann, arbeitet er für die Mafia in Budapest als Auftragsmörder. Außerdem trauert er immer noch seiner einstigen Freundin hinterher, die bald heiraten wird. Als seine Aufträge immer waghalsiger werden, braucht er die Hilfe von Zoli und Barba, weil man ja „Behinderte“ a priori nicht ernst nimmt. Damit legt er sich jedoch mit dem Mafiaboss Radoš an. Begründung: Darf eine ökumenische Jury ihren Preis an einen Killer verleihen? Eigentlich nicht, auch dann nicht, wenn er im Rollstuhl sitzt. Wir geben unseren Preis an einen tod-ernsten Film, in dem es letztlich nicht um Killer geht, sondern um die Macht des menschlichen Geistes, den Willen zu leben und die Leidenschaft, niemals aufzugeben. Für den wahren Helden ist es keine Flucht, Comics zu zeichnen, sondern seine Art, sein Leben zu bewältigen. Mit großem Respekt nehmen die Filmemacher die Situation von behinderten Menschen ernst.

Is it allowed for an ecumenical jury to give it’s prize to a hit man? Probably not, even if he sits in a wheelchair. We give the prize to a dead serious movie that is finally not about hit men, but about the power of the human spirit, the will to life and the passion to never give up. Drawing comics for the real hero of the movie is not an escape but coming to grips with reality. With great respect the filmmakers take seriously the situation of handicapped people.

Beim Abschlussempfang trafen Charlotte Timmerman, Gatis Lidums und Rita Weinert die Produzentin des Films, Judit Stalter. Sie hatte sich sichtlich über den Preis gefreut.

Seit 1999 gibt es eine ökumenische Jury beim Filmfestival des osteuropäischen Films in Cottbus. Die Jurymitglieder kommen jeweils aus verschiedenen Ländern. Es sind Filmjournalisten, Kritiker, Theologen, Lehrer. Gemeinsam schauen sie sich die Wettbewerbsfilme an, analysieren die Filme und entscheiden sich für einen Preisträger.

Während eines Festivals lerne ich neue Menschen kennen, tauche ein in Filmgeschichten und versuche auch, die Stadt Cottbus anzusehen.

Die Jury mit den Gewinnern von „Bob and the Trees“

The central character is Bob, a lively North American logger. His whole life is riddled with mistakes: in his job, with his family and in his relationships.

Nevertheless, he img_5707has the courage to take responsibility for all of them, which allows him to transform his whole life into a message of hope. The film is simply told, but with truth and honesty. Bob, the main character in the film, is played by Bob Tarasuk himself, who in real life is a logger, not an actor.

Song of Songs

 

The Ukrainian film “Song of Songs” deals with spiritual issues in a very original way. The director Eva Neymann uses stylized images to recreate the atmosphere of a Jewish shtetl at the beginning of the 20th century which no longer exists. The biblical Song of Songs serves as background for the story of a young boy’s dreams and childhood love.

Rita Weinert, Hamburg (Germany) – President

Rita Weinert studied theology and trained as a journalist.

img_2461In 1990 she founded and headed until 2013 the Medienbüro Hamburg, an institution of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany. Her work focused on training and further education in the fields of all kind of media, including film. Since 2012 she is working freelance as an instructor and interview trainer in the field of journalism.

For the last 25 years she has also worked on behalf of the Church as a representative to FSK Wiesbaden, an institution responsible for evaluating the age rating for films. As a member of INTERFILM, she has been several times in INTERFILM and Ecumenical Juries.

Rev. Michael Otrisal, Prague (Czech Republic)

Michael Otrisal – After his childhood in an evangelical minister´s family studied from 1971-1976 on the theological faculty at the University of Prague and has been Pastor of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brothers Congregation   from 1976-1995. In the year 1989 he has been appointed to cooperate in foundation of religious broadcasting in Czech television, where he worked till his retirement in 2014.

He finished 2001 magisterial level study on Prague film faculty, recently works as a freelance for Czech TV and TV Noe.

Former member of the SteerCom of the World Association for Christian Communication Europe (WACC), Regional coordinator of INTERFILM in Czech Republic.Member of the Ecumenical Jury in Karlovy Vary, Bratislava and Cannes.

Vít Poláček, Plzeň (Czech Republic)

img_2437Vít Poláček is screenwriter, director and historian working as freelancer on several projects. His script A Girl Reading Letter At An Open Window was awarded with an award for unrealized scripts in 2011 in the competition of Film foundation of RWE, Czech Republic. He is co-author of Tomasz Mielnik´s   film The Journey To Rome (2015).

He did historical researches for several films including Fair Play presented in 2014 in Karlovy Vary. He worked as assistant of director in the social theatre group KunstZ in Antwerpen, Belgium. He studied screenwriting and script editing on FAMU and culture history on Arts faculty of Southbohemian University in České Budějovice.

Lothar Strüber, Freiburg (Germany)

Lothar Strüber is a Catholic theologian, specialised in didactics of media and film, Former director of the Bild- and Filmstelle, Erzdiözese Freiburg i. Br., and former member of the Katholische Filmkommission for Germany, inspector of film and TV productions for the FSK and FSF in Wiesbaden and Berlin and frequently member of the Ecumenical Jury in Berlin, Cottbus, Karlovy-Vary and Mannheim.

 

Karlovy Vary – Das Sommerfestival

Das Filmfestival von Karlovy Vary ist ein Sommerfestival. Es gibt Public Viewing im Freien. Junge Menschen, die auf den Wiesen campieren, lange heiße Nächte mit Musik und Filmgesprächen.
